Large-scale non-Gaussian mass function and halo bias: tests on N-body simulations

چکیده
The description of the abundance and clustering of halos for non-Gaussian initial conditions has recently received renewed interest, motivated by the forthcoming large galaxy and cluster surveys, which can potentially yield constraints of order unity on the non-Gaussianity parameter fNL. We present tests on N-body simulations of analytical formulae describing the halo abundance and clustering for non-Gaussian initial conditions. We calibrate the analytic non-Gaussian mass function of Matarrese et al. (2000) and LoVerde et al. (2008) and the analytic description of clustering of halos for non-Gaussian initial conditions on N-body simulations. We find excellent agreement between the simulations and the analytic predictions if we make the corrections δc −→ δc × √ q and δc −→ δc × q where q ≃ 0.75, in the density threshold for gravitational collapse and in the non-Gaussian fractional correction to the halo bias, respectively. We discuss the implications of this correction on present and forecasted primordial non-Gaussianity constraints. We confirm that the non-Gaussian halo bias offers a robust and highly competitive test of primordial non-Gaussianity.

Non-Gaussian Halo Bias Re-examined: Mass-dependent Amplitude from the Peak-Background Split and Thresholding
Recent results of N-body simulations have shown that current theoretical models are not able to correctly predict the amplitude of the scale-dependent halo bias induced by primordial non-Gaussianity, for models going beyond the simplest, local quadratic case. Motivated by these discrepancies, we carefully examine three theoretical approaches based on (1) the statistics of thresholded regions, (...
متن کاملEffect of primordial non-Gaussianity on halo bias and mass function
We discuss the effect of quadratic and cubic local non-Gaussianity on the mass function and bias of dark matter halos extracted from cosmological N-body simulations. This type of non-Gaussianity induces a k-dependent bias in the large-scale clustering of rare objects. While we find that at low wavenumbers k<0.03 hMpc-1 the theory and the simulations agree well with each other for biased halos w...
متن کاملHalo Assembly Bias in Hierarchical Structure Formation
We investigate the origin of halo assembly bias, the dependence of halo clustering on assembly history. We relate halo assembly to peak properties measured in the Lagrangian space of the initial linear Gaussian random density field, and show how these same Lagrangian properties determine large-scale bias. We focus on the two regimes where assembly bias has been observed to be significant: at ma...
متن کاملA generalized local ansatz and its effect on halo bias
Motivated by the properties of early universe scenarios that produce observationally large local non-Gaussianity, we perform N-body simulations with non-Gaussian initial conditions from a generalized local ansatz. The bispectra are schematically of the local shape, but with scale-dependent amplitude. We find that in such cases the size of the non-Gaussian correction to the bias of small and lar...
متن کاملMass function and bias of dark matter halos for non-Gaussian initial conditions
Aims. We revisit the derivation of the mass function and the bias of dark matter halos for non-Gaussian initial conditions. Methods. We use a steepest-descent approach to point out that exact results can be obtained for the large-mass tail of the halo mass function and the two-point correlation of massive halos. Focusing on primordial non-Gaussianity of the local type, we check that these resul...
